Synir og dughters í snjó

I finished Astrid of the Stones from Red Box games:

and added some basing to her and her compatriots:

The snow is just a baking powder / white glue mix. I tried using GW's stuff and it works great for texturising bases, but as snow - not so much. And in the theme of barbarian madness:

What is Best in Life? Hasslefree and Red Box minis

So, yes, I finally got back into doing some painting. No, it's not my Mass Effect figures - in all honestly I probably won't get back to them until the Extended Cut comes out and I get my ME mojo back.

First up is Sana from Hasslefree Minis:

A beautiful mini (she's resin) and great to paint. Got some weird reflections in the pics making it look like there are a few white spots, but they aren't really there.

Next up is Ferrus, also from Hasslefree:

Like Sana he's resin, and while not as flawless as, say, a Studio McVey LE mini, there was almsot zero cleanup required - only issue was a bit of greenstuffing required on the joins around their wrists. No flash, and barely any mould lines at all. Crisp details and soft enough to cut easily without being too soft that I'm worried about them sagging in heat etc.

Lastly is Hakar the Horrible from Red Box:

When taking the photos I noticed I got some grey on his right arm and the handle of his axe.

Bummer - that skin's going to be tough to fix.

The plan is to base them with a grass/snow mixture - going to play around with GW's new snow texture stuff and see what happens.

Group shot with a couple of other Red Box barbarians:

I'm painting these guys up to (hopefully) get a game of Get the Girl, Kill the Baddies in with them and my other generic fantasy figs. Should have some more to show soon.

If that isn't enough to sate your barbarian rage, check out

Hasslefree Tomoko and Vissarisa

Finally painted up Tomoko (ie Major Kusanagi of Ghost in the Shell) by Hasslefree, in similar colours to her Stand Alone Complex guise. I think the shading came out very nicely on her jacket and bodysuit.

Here she is with the Firebrand Conscript I posted earlier. I kept the Major clean and smooth with a limited colour scheme to show her as a more professional fighter opposed to the Firebrand who is grittier and more thrown together.

She doesn't yet have a base as I'm going to give her a Sedition Wars one when they arrive to make her match the rest of my 'hard sci-fi' type minis.

Funnily enough Hasslefree put up a clear resin version of her, then sold out, while I was painting her. Oh well, I'll try and get one from the next run.

I've also been working on Vissarisa:

I still need to highlight her tabbard, face and give her shield a crest, but otherwise she's almost done.

I'm also trying (fairly unsucessfully) to fight off lust for the Phantom Titan. I'm thinking a dark greenish-blue colour scheme with glowing tracery over it, TRON Legacy style. I've played around in photoshop with the preview pics and I think it could work.

Finished some RMM minis

Finished a pair of models recently for the RMMC (been slacking off on it due to needing to strip a heap of them) - first is Svala from Hasslefree:

Second is Svala from Hasslefree:

They were both really nice to paint, with lots of little details and a whole lot of character. As the second is the 'experienced' version of the first I painted them simultaneously to ensure the colours came out the same.

The clothes are Khemri Brown base with Snakebite Leather washed with Gryphonne Sepia and Ogryn Flesh. Young Svala has a touch of Devlan Mud, while Experienced Svala has a heavier going over to weather her more. Gloves are Dark Flesh washed with Ogryn Flesh. Belts in black, trimmed with Shining Gold and Dwarf Bronze. The pattern on the clothing changed to suit the figure's shapes and pose better, and is inspired by a Jersey Caramel (though I added some black lining to spice things up).

Chainmail is Mithril silver washed with Devlan Mud. The hammers are a Mithril Silver head (with Burnished Gold inlay), Boltgun Metal haft, Shining gold at the base of the haft, Bestial Brown grip, and Burnished Gold pommel. The whole thing was washed with Devlan Mud.

Young Svala's hair is Iyanden Darksun washed with Gryphonne Sepia. To age her a little Experienced Svala's hair was done with Bleached Bone and washed with Sepia and a little Ogryn Flesh.

Skin tones were a base of Elf Flesh, lips in Dwarf Flesh. The whole face got a glaze of Sepia, and the lips, around the hairline and base of the neck and jaw were carefully washed with Ogryn Flesh. Eyes are simply black and white.

Very happy with how they both turned out - I'm leaving the bases black on purpose as I find it best for display models and it transfers to every gaming environment easily - no taking the wild woods with you into the dungeon.

Glorfindel - Lord of the West

He's based on an Iron Halo Wyldewoode base, with a bit of bracken from Hasslefree (which I promptly bent when moving him to photograph). A nice change from 40k stuff, I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.
